Joblumi vs Canva: a designed CV or one built for German applications (2026)
Canva is a design tool. A CV is one of many things you can make with it, next to presentations, social posts and flyers. You start from a template, move boxes, change colours and fonts, add graphics and your photo, and export the result.
Joblumi is not a design tool. You fill in your details, pick one of 10 designs, and Joblumi lays out a CV that follows German conventions. Then it checks the CV for German recruiters and for applicant software, and helps you adapt it for each job.
So this is less "which tool is cheaper" and more "what do you need the CV to do". Here are the facts.

Design freedom and what software reads
Many employers receive applications through an applicant tracking system (ATS). Its parser reads the text of your CV and sorts it into fields. Career services and employers describe what tends to get lost: text in graphics or images, skill bars and icons, text boxes, several columns read side by side, and content in the header or footer (KIT Career Service, Roche resume parsing FAQ). We explain this in detail in our guide to an ATS-friendly CV.
This is not about Canva in particular. Any tool that lets you place anything anywhere lets you build a CV that a person likes and a parser misreads. It depends on the template you pick and what you do with it. Canva's own CV advice points the same way: readable fonts instead of fancy typography, single line spacing, clear section headings and 1 cm margins (Canva CV page, FAQ, retrieved 31 Oct 2026).
In Joblumi you don't place boxes; the design you pick decides the layout. What you can check is the content and the format: the free (G)ATS Score check shows how a German recruiter and applicant software would read your CV, with each finding and how to fix it.
A quick test if you design your CV in Canva
1. Export your CV as a PDF. 2. Open the PDF, select all text and paste it into a plain text editor. 3. Check that everything is there and in a sensible order: name and contact details first, then each job with its dates.
If text is missing or mixed up, simplify the template: one or two columns, no text in graphics, contact details in the main body.
The German CV: what a template doesn't add for you
A template gives you a look. The German conventions are about content and order, and you need to know them yourself when you work in a design tool:
- tabular layout, newest entries first, dates as MM/YYYY
- at most two pages
- photo optional; if you add one, in the main body, not in the header
- language levels on the European scale, A1 to C2
- a cover letter in German business letter layout (DIN 5008), with sender, date and subject line in fixed places
Joblumi builds these into the CV and the cover letter and explains them in English. The app works in English and German, and with a pass it translates your documents between the two. Canva lets you upload your own photo and place it anywhere on the page, and it has many CV templates with photo.
What it costs (calculated)
For a CV alone you may not need Canva Pro at all: Canva Free is available to everyone. If you want Pro templates or Pro features, Pro is a subscription.
| How long | Joblumi | Canva Pro |
|---|---|---|
| 30 days | €14.90 | €12 (one month) |
| 90 days | €34.90 | €36 (three months at €12) |
| 12 months | €139.60 (four 90-day passes, 360 days) | €110 (yearly plan) or €144 (12 months at €12) |
Calculated by Joblumi from the prices on each provider's pages for Germany, 31 Oct 2026, without cancelling. Joblumi prices include VAT. Canva Pro covers all your designs, not only the CV; the Joblumi pass covers the job search tools in the app.
How to cancel Canva
Canva says you cancel online under Settings, then Billing, then Cancel plan. If you subscribed through an app store, you cancel there. You keep access until the end of the billing period, and you can also pause your plan for up to 3 months (Canva help, retrieved 31 Oct 2026). A Joblumi pass needs no cancelling.

In short
Canva gives you design freedom across many formats, and for a CV that freedom can work for or against you with applicant software. Joblumi takes the layout out of your hands, follows German conventions and checks the result. Whatever tool you use, test your PDF before you send it.
Questions about Joblumi and Canva
Is a Canva CV ATS-friendly?
That depends on the template and how you build it, not on the tool. Simple layouts with one or two columns and real text read well; graphics, icons and text boxes are where parsers often fail. Use the quick test above.
Can I make a German CV in Canva?
Yes, if you follow the German conventions yourself: tabular, newest first, MM/YYYY, at most two pages. Canva's German CV page has many templates, including ones with a photo.
Can I download a Canva CV as a Word file?
Canva's CV page lists PDF, JPEG and PNG, and its step-by-step text also names Word. With a Joblumi pass you get Word as well as PDF.
Is Canva free for a CV?
Canva Free is available to everyone. Some CV templates are marked Pro. Pro costs €12 a month or €110 a year in Germany (31 Oct 2026).
