What an online assessment is

Some employers ask applicants to complete online tests as part of the application. Aon, one of the test providers, describes three kinds (Aon, retrieved 30 Oct 2026):

Kind What it measures Right or wrong answers?
Performance tests (ability or aptitude) For example logical reasoning, working with numbers or text, concentration Yes
Personality questionnaires How you tend to work, for example ambition or cooperation No
Knowledge tests Specific professional knowledge Yes

This practice test covers performance tasks. A personality questionnaire has no right answers, so there is nothing to practise beyond knowing the format: answer honestly and consistently.

How a real online assessment works

The points below come from Aon’s guide for candidates (Aon). Other providers may work differently, so always read your invitation.

What What to expect
Number of tests In most cases no more than five
Length of each test In most cases less than fifteen minutes
Pausing Once a timed test starts, you can’t interrupt it. You can take breaks between tests
Time to complete Usually several days for all tests, and you can do them on different days
Deadline Stated in your invitation, usually with the time you will need
Scoring Points are usually added for correct answers and deducted for wrong ones, so answer quickly but carefully
At the interview You may be asked to repeat a module from the online assessment

Aon also advises getting familiar with online tests before you start, answering quickly but carefully, and working without interruptions on a computer with a current browser.

The test types in this practice test

Test type Format
Numerical reasoning A table or chart, a question, five answers
Verbal reasoning A short text and a statement: True, False or Cannot say
Logical reasoning A sequence of figures; choose the one that comes next from five options
Situational judgement A workplace situation and several possible reactions

The formats follow what test providers show candidates. SHL’s examples, for instance, use True, False or Cannot say for verbal reasoning and a sequence of five boxes with answers A to E for inductive (logical) reasoning (SHL Verbal Reasoning, SHL Inductive Reasoning, retrieved 30 Oct 2026). All tasks on Joblumi are our own. The mixed test on this page combines numerical, verbal and logical tasks; situational judgement has its own page.

Tasks 12 in the free test without an account, mixed
Time A time limit per section, about 45 to 75 seconds per task depending on the type
Modes Test mode with a time limit and the result at the end; practice mode with an explanation after each task needs a free account
Cost Free, no sign-up
Result Share of correct answers by test type, your weakest test type, time per task, a worked solution for every task
What it is A practice tool, not a standardised test: no percentile, no IQ, no comparison with other people

With a free account you can save your result, choose the number format (1,234.56 or 1.234,56), add extra time if you need it, and practise each test type in practice mode with 20 tasks.

Example tasks with solutions

These examples are written by Joblumi. Real tests look different from provider to provider.

Numerical reasoning

Strategy: read the question first, then find only the numbers it needs. Write down the calculation before you look at the answers.

Quarter Sales (thousand €)
Q1 240
Q2 300
Q3 270

By what percentage did sales grow from Q1 to Q2? A) 20 % B) 25 % C) 30 % D) 60 % E) 125 %

Solution: The increase is 300 − 240 = 60. Divide by the starting value: 60 ÷ 240 = 0.25, so B) 25 %. A common mistake is to divide by the new value (60 ÷ 300 = 20 %).

By what percentage did sales fall from Q2 to Q3? A) 3 % B) 10 % C) 11 % D) 30 % E) 90 %

Solution: The fall is 300 − 270 = 30. Divide by the starting value Q2: 30 ÷ 300 = 0.10, so B) 10 %.

Verbal reasoning

Strategy: judge each statement only by the text. If the text doesn’t say it, the answer is Cannot say, even if it sounds likely.

In March, a company moved its accounts team to a hybrid model. Staff now work in the office two days a week and from home on the other three. Since the change, the share of calls answered within one minute has risen from 70 to 82 percent. The company plans to review the model after twelve months.

  1. Staff work in the office three days a week. False: the text says two days.
  2. The faster answers are caused by the hybrid model. Cannot say: the text reports both facts but doesn’t say one caused the other.
  3. The company plans to review the model after a year. True: the text says it plans to review it after twelve months.

Logical reasoning

Strategy: look for one change at a time: number, shape, position, colour. Name the rule before you choose.

The sequence shows a triangle, a square, a pentagon and a hexagon. Which figure comes next? A) circle B) pentagon C) heptagon D) octagon E) square

Solution: Each figure has one side more than the one before (3, 4, 5, 6), so the next has 7 sides: C) heptagon.

A 7-day practice plan

Day What to do
1 Take the mixed test. Note your weakest type
2 Numerical: 20 tasks in practice mode (free account), check every worked solution
3 Verbal: 20 tasks, focus on the difference between False and Cannot say
4 Logical: 20 tasks, say the rule out loud before you choose
5 Situational judgement: read the job ad again and practise with its values in mind
6 Mixed test in test mode, with the timer, no breaks
7 Repeat your weakest type, then rest before the real test

Before day 5, pull the key terms out of the job ad.

Typical mistakes

  • Starting the real test before reading the invitation: check the deadline and the time you will need first.
  • Guessing fast at the end. When wrong answers cost points, a careful answer is better than a quick one (Aon).
  • In verbal tasks, using what you know instead of what the text says. Only the text counts.
  • In numerical tasks, dividing by the wrong base when you calculate a percentage change.
  • Taking the test on a phone or with notifications on. A quiet room and a computer help.

The essentials Most online assessments consist of no more than five tests, each usually shorter than fifteen minutes. You can’t pause a test once it has started, but you usually have several days for all of them. Wrong answers usually cost points, and you may have to repeat a module at the interview (Aon).

What a chat can’t do here

A general AI chat can describe these tests, but it can’t time you, show charts and figure sequences like a real test, or score you against a checked answer key.

Questions people ask

What is an online assessment test?

A set of online tests that an employer asks you to complete during the application. It combines several tests, such as numerical or verbal reasoning, and can include a personality questionnaire (Aon).

How long does an online assessment take?

In most cases each test lasts less than fifteen minutes, and there are no more than five tests (Aon). Your invitation tells you how long to plan for.

Can I pause the test?

Not once a timed test has started. You can take breaks between tests (Aon).

Does practising help?

Aon recommends getting familiar with online tests before you take one. Knowing the formats and the timing means you spend the real test on the tasks, not on the instructions.

Will my result here predict my real result?

No. This is a practice tool with our own tasks. It shows how you do on these tasks, not how you compare with other applicants.
