What the job description analyzer shows

Result What you see
Must-haves Requirements the employer expects, with the German words that mark them
Nice-to-haves Requirements that give extra points but are not a condition
Language levels The German and English level the ad asks for, as a CEFR level from A1 to C2
Key terms The words and skills that matter most in this ad, in German and English
Facts Deadline, start date, hours, pay and how to apply, if stated

Use the key terms in your CV and cover letter. The more of them you can honestly show, the better you probably fit, even when software reads your documents first (FH Münster Career Service, retrieved 31 Oct 2026). The free CV check with the (G)ATS Score tests your CV against German CV rules; it does not read the job ad.

To match an ad to your CV, save the job in the app. Job match rates from 0 to 100 how well your CV shows the must-haves and nice-to-haves, the job title and key terms as the ad writes them, the German and English level, the years of experience and the degree. It is free for one job.

How to read a German job ad

Most German job ads have the same parts. “Ihre Aufgaben” lists your tasks. “Ihr Profil” lists the requirements. At the end you find how to apply, often with a contact person and a reference number (FH Münster Career Service, retrieved 31 Oct 2026). Many ads also have “Wir bieten”: what the employer offers.

The most important tasks and requirements usually come first (FH Münster Career Service, retrieved 31 Oct 2026). Verbs matter too. “Mitwirken” (contribute) and “unterstützen” (support) mean a smaller role than “verantworten” (be responsible for) or “steuern” (lead).

Common phrases and what they mean

What (m/w/d) means

A job must not be advertised in a way that discriminates, for example by gender (§ 11 AGG with § 1 AGG, retrieved 31 Oct 2026). The Federal Anti-Discrimination Agency recommends job titles that are gender-neutral or include the third gender (Antidiskriminierungsstelle des Bundes, retrieved 31 Oct 2026). Hence (m/w/d) after titles like “Entwickler”.

Which German level the ad really asks for

German ads rarely name a CEFR level. No standard defines words like “gute” or “verhandlungssicher”. The analyzer maps them to the six CEFR levels of the Council of Europe, from A1 to C2 (Council of Europe, CEFR global scale, retrieved 31 Oct 2026).

Words in the ad Joblumi reading What the level means (Council of Europe)
Grundkenntnisse A2 Simple, routine exchanges on familiar topics
gute Kenntnisse B1 to B2 B2: regular talk with native speakers without strain for either side
sehr gute Kenntnisse B2 to C1 C1: fluent and flexible use for work and study
verhandlungssicher, fließend C1 or higher C1: fluent, spontaneous, clear text on complex subjects

The middle column is Joblumi’s reading, not a rule. Read the tasks too: daily client calls in German need more than a role in an English-speaking team.

Do you need to meet every requirement?

No. A full match is rare. FH Münster’s career service says about 70% of the requirements is usually enough, as long as you meet the most important ones (FH Münster Career Service, retrieved 31 Oct 2026). JGU Mainz advises to apply if you meet about 60% (JGU Career Service, retrieved 31 Oct 2026).

Check the must-haves first. If you meet most of them, apply. In the cover letter, focus on what matters for this specific ad (Bundesagentur für Arbeit, retrieved 31 Oct 2026). Joblumi helps you write a cover letter for Germany that does this.

Salary and deadline

Salary. Public sector ads often name the pay group from the collective agreement (tarifliche Eingruppierung), such as “E 13 TV-L” (FH Münster Career Service, retrieved 31 Oct 2026). If the ad asks for your “Gehaltsvorstellung”, give it. If not, the Federal Employment Agency advises to leave pay for the interview (Bundesagentur für Arbeit, retrieved 31 Oct 2026). An EU directive from 2023 gives applicants the right to information on the starting pay or its range, for example in the ad or before the interview. EU countries had to bring it into national law by 7 June 2026 (Directive (EU) 2023/970, Articles 5 and 34, retrieved 31 Oct 2026). See salary expectations in Germany.

Deadline. If the ad has a “Bewerbungsfrist” or “Einsendefrist”, apply before that date. Ads often run for a limited time, so save the text early. You will need it before the interview (FH Münster Career Service, retrieved 31 Oct 2026). Use the way to apply that the ad names, such as email or the company portal (Bundesagentur für Arbeit, retrieved 31 Oct 2026).

What you get for free, and what the app adds

Everything in the table at the top is free on this page, without an account. With a free Joblumi account, the analysis goes further: how well you match, which terms of the ad your CV is missing, and a version of your CV for exactly this job. The free account includes one analysis in the app and one CV version for one job. The check on this page does not count toward it. With a pass, you can create versions for every job, within fair use, and track each job on your board with reminders.

Joblumi uses Anthropic as its AI provider. It does not train on your data. Every AI result is marked as such.

Limits

The analyzer reads the words of the ad. It doesn’t know what the hiring manager really wants, and it doesn’t test your language level. If the result looks wrong, trust the ad.
